  1. - There are too many people who are taking the video capability of the EOS 5D Mark II VERY seriously. Even professionals from many production studios.

A good example of serious work that can be done with the 5D Mark II (despite ALL the workarounds needed to use the video feature professionally) is the Feature Film “Searching for Sonny”

These independent filmmakers have a blog that explain and share lot of workarounds and experiences that might be the interest of lot of users:

    Check their blog: https://patathread.com/

    - There are also renowned designers & manufacturers that had started to build and sale gear for this camera (Redrock, Zacuto, etc). That also demonstrates HOW MUCH customers and designers & manufacturers are taking the video capability of the EOS 5D Mark II seriously and professionally.

    - The remaining question still not answered is HOW LONGER will it take to Canon to release a Firmware Update allowing the users to have Full Manual Control in Movie mode wich is extremelly necessary for serious purposes without the need of using so many “tricks” and workarounds (one of them is using other brands manual lenses) to get (AT LEAST) some control to achieve the so remarked and advertised “amazing depth-of-field control” by Canon.

    - Canon’s “clarification” (page 3 of Revised White Paper), and answers to online inquiries sent from customers, telling them that depth of field can be controlled by the “focal length” of the lens and the “distance to the subject” is NOT a Real control. It

is an obvious workaround that ANY serious photographer and videographer already knows, and does not give any “amazing depth-of-field control” at all.

It is NOT a professional answer either due to that reason.

    - The REAL depth-of-field control, as ANY photographer and videographer knows, is achieved controlling the Aperture setting along with those previous aspects, and NOT WITHOUT Aperture control.

    - The worst situation is that MANY customers bought the camera relying in Canon’s statement of “depth-of-field control”:

Page 6:”With it activated, photographers and videographers can capture high definition video with depth-of-field control found only in professional video models”

Page 14: “It’s lighter, smaller, and lower-priced than most professional HD camcorders, yet provides amazing depth-of-field control, exposure compensation and white balance controls”

It is also remarkable that the camera does NOT accurately display the settings values used for video when filming. So the user must just “guess” what the current values are. You can not even trust on the displayed values, it’s surprisingly frustrating, as so many people have reviewed and reported on specialized forums and blogs.

    - THOUSANDS of people have expressed their request for FULL MANUAL CONTROL in video mode (wich is an ESSENTIAL feature to allow the serious use of this camera, as it is meant to be) along with the existing Program mode, that CAN be really implemented via Firmware Update (without any hardware change, with no redesign, with no big costs to Canon)

These people have expressed their suggestions and request via online inquiries, customer feedbacks, online reviews, and even phone calls to Canon.

There is also an INTERNATIONAL PETITION TO CANON Inc. started on March:
    https://www.petitiononline.com/5dmark2/petition.html

It’s interesting to see how many professionals from many video and production studios & companies AROUND THE WORLD have already signed in short time.

It is just another effort by and for the entire community of Photographers, Videographers and Filmmakers, wich also has a small blog to spread link with some additional information: https://5dmark2.wordpress.com

    - CANON would certainly achieve a LOT more sympathy, loyalty, credibility and sales (on this camera and Canon lenses) if they simply deliver the huge potential the camera already has inside, that was advertised, but wasn not still given to the customers.

THOUSANDS of people around the world are requesting for Full Manual Control in Video mode on the 5D Mark II…

CANON could take advantage of their position right now, update the Firmware, increase sales on camera and lenses, and also develope new accessories for it, because of the HUGE interest on this camera and it’s possibilities.

So far, they are the ONLY company with a Full Frame DSLR camera that is in such condition. But the competition is hard, and will not wait much…
