Samsung launches ultra-stylish, compact second generation DVD player

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, today unveiled a second generation DVD player, the DVD-H1080. A follow up to last year’s pebble-like DVD-F1080 model, the new DVD-H1080 player is as compact as the original. Slightly larger than the DVD discs it spins, the device weighs just over two pounds. The high-performance digital entertainment device also boasts Samsung’s striking Touch of Color™ (ToC™) design. Samsung DVD-H1080 will be on display at Booth #11033 during the International Consumer Electronics Show, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 8 through 11, 2009.

“The DVD-H1080 player furthers Samsung’s strong desire to provide a truly passion-worthy digital entertainment experience. Consumers will attain an unheralded degree of style, sophistication, and DVD playback performance with this new product,” said Reid Sullivan, vice president of Audio/Video and Digital Imaging Marketing at Samsung Electronics America.

Despite its minimalist styling, there is certainly nothing minimalist about the DVD-H1080’s substantial feature set. The DVD-H1080 supports 1080p (Full HD) up scaling, able to up-convert standard DVDs to 720p, 1080i or 1080p resolutions. In addition, a USB Host Play function offers extensive multimedia file playback capabilities, including support for DivX, MP3 and JPEG files.

These capabilities ensure a truly versatile home theater experience. Not just an ordinary DVD box meant for simple disc playback, the DVD-H1080 will be able to function as an entertainment hub for the living room, screening movies, music, and pictures all from a USB stick.

The DVD-H1080 will be available in the first half of 2009.
