SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) today unveiled its next-generation of flash memory-based solid-state drives (SSD) to support the evolving needs of designers, manufacturers and users in the exploding netbook market - SanDisk® pSSD™.

SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) today unveiled its next-generation of flash memory-based solid-state drives (SSD) to support the evolving needs of designers, manufacturers and users in the exploding netbook market – SanDisk® pSSD™. The new SanDisk pSSD-P2 and SanDisk pSSD-S2 SSDs have capacity and performance for more full-featured netbooks which require a robust operating system.

Designed as drop-in replacements for hard-disk drives (HDDs), SanDisk’s new second generation module has a SATA interface to meet new netbook design requirements. The SATA interface offers a significant boost in performance rendering these SSDs faster than HDDs in critical aspects. Booting and launching applications takes just half the time of an HDD.

Available in capacities of 8, 16, 32 and 64-gigabytes (GB)1, SanDisk Gen 2 pSSD drives are aggressively priced, making them attractive for POS terminals, printers, ATMs and other applications where users need HDD functionality with strong reliability, yet want to pay a low cost for the exact capacity that they need. For example, the 32GB modular SSD is priced at parity with 2.5” HDDs in OEM quantities.

“Netbooks represent the fastest growing PC segment in 2009 and 2010 yet widespread adoption of SSDs in netbooks has been limited by speed, capacity and cost constraints,” said Rich Heye, senior vice president and general manager, Solid-State Drives (SSD), SanDisk. “With the significant improvements in performance, capacity and low pricing, these SSDs are a perfect fit for the exploding netbook market.”

Netbook Market Takes Off

Netbooks as a category sold about half a million units in 2007 yet market researchers International Data Corp. (IDC) recently hiked their projected worldwide sales to reach 11 million this year, growing to 41 million in 2012. Initially, IDC projected worldwide sales to reach nine million in 2012.

“SanDisk’s Gen 2 pSSD drives have the best combination of capacity, performance, weight, pricing and power advantages to really excite designers, manufacturers and users of netbooks,” said Richard Brown, VP of Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. “Our latest reference designs will include SanDisk’s Gen2 pSSD drives, and we look forward to working with SanDisk to aggressively address the netbook market’s needs.”

SanDisk’s Gen 2 pSSD drives, slated to be available in February, 2009, are built using the company’s reliable 43-nanometer Multi-Level Cell (MLC) flash memory. This technology is produced at fabrication plants in Yokkaichi, Japan, where SanDisk and its partner, Toshiba Corporation, share the output.

The technology on which the Second Generation Modular SSDs are based also utilizes SanDisk’s innovative patented All Bit Line (ABL) architecture with advanced proprietary programming algorithms and multi-level data storage management schemes to yield MLC NAND flash memory chips that don’t sacrifice performance or reliability.

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, today unveiled a second generation DVD player, the DVD-H1080.

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, today unveiled a second generation DVD player, the DVD-H1080. A follow up to last year’s pebble-like DVD-F1080 model, the new DVD-H1080 player is as compact as the original. Slightly larger than the DVD discs it spins, the device weighs just over two pounds. The high-performance digital entertainment device also boasts Samsung’s striking Touch of Color™ (ToC™) design. Samsung DVD-H1080 will be on display at Booth #11033 during the International Consumer Electronics Show, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 8 through 11, 2009.

“The DVD-H1080 player furthers Samsung’s strong desire to provide a truly passion-worthy digital entertainment experience. Consumers will attain an unheralded degree of style, sophistication, and DVD playback performance with this new product,” said Reid Sullivan, vice president of Audio/Video and Digital Imaging Marketing at Samsung Electronics America.

Despite its minimalist styling, there is certainly nothing minimalist about the DVD-H1080’s substantial feature set. The DVD-H1080 supports 1080p (Full HD) up scaling, able to up-convert standard DVDs to 720p, 1080i or 1080p resolutions. In addition, a USB Host Play function offers extensive multimedia file playback capabilities, including support for DivX, MP3 and JPEG files.

These capabilities ensure a truly versatile home theater experience. Not just an ordinary DVD box meant for simple disc playback, the DVD-H1080 will be able to function as an entertainment hub for the living room, screening movies, music, and pictures all from a USB stick.

The DVD-H1080 will be available in the first half of 2009.

AMD President and Chief Executive Officer Dirk Meyer and OTOY Chief Executive Officer Jules Urbach unveiled a plan to revolutionize the deployment, development and delivery of HD content through the “AMD Fusion Render Cloud”, a massively-parallel supercomputer.

Today at CES, AMD (NYSE: AMD) President and Chief Executive Officer Dirk Meyer and OTOY Chief Executive Officer Jules Urbach unveiled a plan to revolutionize the deployment, development and delivery of HD content through the “AMD Fusion Render Cloud”, a massively-parallel supercomputer. The announcement took place during AMD’s Industry Insider Series keynote at the Las Vegas Hilton Theater, where AMD was joined on stage by industry luminaries such as Lucasfilm, Dell, HP and Electronic Arts.

“AMD has a long track record in the supercomputing world. Seven out of 10 of the world’s fastest machines, including the fastest two computers on the planet, are powered by AMD hardware,” said Meyer. “Today, AMD is pleased to announce a new kind of supercomputer unlike any other ever built. It is being designed to break the one petaFLOPS barrier, and to process a million compute threads across more than 1,000 graphics processors. We anticipate it to be the fastest graphics supercomputer ever. And it will be powered by OTOY’s software for a singular purpose: to make HD cloud computing a reality. We plan to have this system ready by the second half of 2009.”

The system is being designed to enable content providers to deliver video games, PC applications and other graphically-intensive applications through the Internet “cloud” to virtually any type of mobile device with a web browser without making the device rapidly deplete battery life or struggle to process the content. The AMD Fusion Render Cloud will transform movie and gaming experiences through server-side rendering – which stores visually rich content in a compute cloud, compresses it, and streams it in real-time over a wireless or broadband connection to a variety of devices such as smart phones, set-top boxes and ultra-thin notebooks. By delivering remotely rendered content to devices that are unable to store and process HD content due to such constraints as device size, battery capacity, and processing power, HD cloud computing represents the capability to bring HD entertainment to mobile users virtually anywhere.

The AMD Fusion Render Cloud will also enable remote real-time rendering of film and visual effects graphics on an unprecedented scale. Gaming companies can use the AMD Fusion Render Cloud for developing and deploying next-generation game content, to serve up virtual world games with unlimited photo-realistic detail, and take advantage of new delivery channels as open and diverse as the web itself.

“Hosted on AMD’s powerful new AMD Fusion Render platform, OTOY’s revolutionary software has given birth to the world’s first practical, scalable graphics supercomputer capable of true server-side HD cloud rendering. The AMD Fusion Render Cloud will allow directors like Robert Rodriguez of Troublemaker Studios to break through existing CPU-only and graphics processor-only render bottlenecks which have imposed limitations on the creation of true eye-definition assets,” said Charlie Boswell, Director of Digital Media and Entertainment, AMD.

“I use big technology to stay ahead of the artistic curve and that technology has been and continues to be AMD’s. Having the means to create interactive eye-definition movie and game assets with the AMD Fusion Render Cloud and to then to make them available to a broader audience through new distribution methods will bring about a renaissance in content creation and consumption,” said Robert Rodriguez, Director, Troublemaker Studios.

“Imagine watching a movie half-way through on your cell phone while on the bus ride home, then, upon entering your home or apartment, switch over to your HD TV and continue watching the same movie from exactly where you left off, seamlessly, and at full screen resolution,” continued Boswell. “Imagine playing the most visually intensive first person shooter game at the highest image quality settings on your cell phone without ever having to download and install the software, or use up valuable storage space or battery life with compute-intensive tasks. Those are just some of the experiences that AMD and OTOY plan to make possible with HD cloud computing of visually rich entertainment content.”

“By fusing industry-leading CPU technology with computationally dense, massively parallel graphics processors, the AMD Fusion Render Cloud can rival the world’s most powerful industrial computing devices, but require just a fraction of the floor space, power envelope and cost associated with many of today’s leading supercomputers,” said Jules Urbach, Chief Executive Officer, OTOY. “Combined with the power of OTOY’s revolutionary and flexible software platform, the AMD Fusion Render Cloud can transform the entertainment industry and remove the technical barriers between consumers and first-rate content experiences.”

The AMD Fusion Render Cloud will be powered by AMD-optimized hardware including the AMD Phenom™ II processors, AMD 790 chipsets and ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 graphics processors, for unprecedented compute density and power efficiency. The AMD Fusion Render Cloud is an excellent example of AMD’s Fusion strategy, combining its partners’ dreams with AMD innovation, to bring powerful technologies to mainstream markets through the combined power of graphics processors and CPUs in a single platform.

“At Electronic Arts, we have been lucky enough to be a part of the creation of a number of changes in the world of personal computer gaming. From the first PCs to CD gaming to the advent of Internet gaming, we have embraced each new evolution of technology as an opportunity to bring new experiences to our customers,” said Richard Hilleman, Chief Creative Officer, Electronic Arts. “OTOY and AMD are at the cutting edge of thin client gaming, and we look forward to the new customers we can reach and the new interactive expressions that emerge from revolutionary technology like the AMD Fusion Render Cloud.”

AMD plans to provide the hardware and engineering resources for the AMD Fusion Render Cloud, with OTOY providing technical software development and a middleware layer.

SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK), the inventor and world’s largest supplier of flash storage cards, today unveiled the new Sansa® slotRadio™ player and companion line of slotRadio music cards designed especially for the casual music consumer. The Sansa slotRadio player is a small, stylish, portable music device that comes bundled with a slotRadio card preloaded with 1,000 songs handpicked from the Billboard® charts, and professionally arranged into a variety of genre-themed playlists.

“slotRadio’s unprecedented simplicity will have even the most time-pressed music fans enjoying a huge range of music in no time,” said Daniel Schreiber, senior vice president and general manager, SanDisk. “1,000 handpicked songs in your pocket with zero downloads makes enjoying digital music easier than ever. Never before has music been this accessible.”

The immediacy of the plug-and-play model offered by the card-plus-player format ushers in a new way for consumers to enjoy music. To date, portable music devices typically required software installations, followed by time-consuming music selection and file-by-file downloading, topped off with cable connections and synchronization.

“slotRadio dramatically lowers these barriers, offering a genuine alternative to existing options,” said Noam Kedem, vice president of product management, SanDisk. “This makes slotRadio a perfect player for the pressed-for-time mom, the harried traveler, the can’t-stop-now fitness fanatic, as well as anyone who just wants to kick back and discover new songs, or re-discover a timeless favorite.”

The player comes bundled with a slotRadio mix card containing 1,000 songs. It features a variety of playlists from Billboard’s charts, including rock, contemporary, country, and others organized into themes such as “chillout,” “workout” and more. While songs cannot be removed from the card, users can easily navigate between the playlists, and skip through songs at the press of a button.

“slotRadio offers a uniquely uncomplicated portable digital music experience, combining the music discovery aspects of radio with consumer choice in genre selection,” said Susan Kevorkian, Program Director, Consumer Markets at IDC. “Solutions like slotRadio that offer competitively priced, straightforward new ways to acquire and interact with music will play a key role in driving demand among new and existing digital music device and service users as those markets continue to evolve.”

Priced at $99.99 (MSRP)—including the 1,000 song card—the die-cast aluminum player also features a 1.5” OLED screen for viewing artist and song information, a FM radio and even an integrated, handy belt clip for hands-free listening. Additional 1,000 song, genre-specific and themed slotRadio cards will be sold separately at $39.99 MSRP.

The Sansa slotRadio player is expected to be available for purchase online at sansa.com and at more than 4,400 RadioShack stores nationwide in Early 2009.

The Sansa slotRadio cards are designed to be interchangeable with any slotRadio player and will be also compatible with the Sansa® Fuze™ line of MP3 players.

The Sansa slotRadio Player expands SanDisk’s Sansa audio/video product family, which includes the recently introduced slotMusic™ player and cards for avid fans, the popular Sansa Fuze™ and the small Sansa® Clip.
SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) today introduced an innovative new family of SanDisk® USB flash drives, including the world’s first backup USB flash drive with simple backup software activation at the touch of a button.

SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) today introduced an innovative new family of SanDisk® USB flash drives, including the world’s first backup USB flash drive with simple backup software activation at the touch of a button. The SanDisk Ultra® Backup USB portable flash drive is the first offering of the company’s new SanDisk Ultra USB product line. With capacities up to 64 gigabytes1 (GB), the SanDisk Ultra Backup USB flash drive is designed to protect computer users’ photos, music, videos, personal and business documents, and other types of digital files, with the simple touch of a button. No software installation is needed. The drive protects onboard digital content with a dual layer of security, including password-protected access control and ultra-secure AES hardware-based encryption.2

The new SanDisk USB product family includes three different product lines:

1. The popular SanDisk® Cruzer® USB flash drive which provides simple, reliable and portable storage, plus access to a variety of U3™ applications.
2. The SanDisk Ultra Backup USB flash drive offers the added protection and peace of mind that consumers expect from the minds behind flash memory.
3. The SanDisk Extreme® Contour™ provides increased security protection and higher performance levels, enclosed in a sleek, elegant industrial design.

SanDisk Ultra Backup USB Flash Drive: Back up critical files with the simple touch of a button

With no cables required, or any complicated software to install, the new SanDisk Ultra Backup USB flash drive is a complete backup solution that provides an incredibly easy way to protect digital files. It uses patent-pending backup technology with capacities up to 64GB, large enough to back up average consumer requirements, as well as critical small business files and documents. In addition to one’s digital personal life, these products protect critical work files with a dual layer of both password protection and AES hardware encryption. This ensures content stays private and secure (via data scrambling at the flash controller level) when the drives are either physically removed for portability, or stored away for safe keeping.

The explosion in global sales of laptops and mobile devices has exponentially increased the vulnerability of digital files. Computer users can quickly lose precious photos, music, videos and professional work files due to drops, spills, theft, viruses and other incidents. PC Magazine (www.pcmag.com) conducted a research study on annualized notebook failure rates published in July 2008 which found that more than 24 percent of business notebooks need repair each year due to failures.

“Like flossing our teeth or balancing our checkbooks, when it comes to backing up our digital files, even though people know they should do it, they simply don’t – and that behavior is putting many consumers’ precious digital content at serious risk,” said Kent Perry, director of USB product marketing, SanDisk. “We’re delivering incredibly simple backup to protect people’s most valuable digital content at Main Street prices. With our wide array of capacities and price points, consumers can even choose to store particular file types like digital music or photos on different USB flash drives.”

A 2008 Consumer Electronics Association market research report, titled “Amassing Digital Fortunes: A Digital Storage Study,” found the average U.S. online adult has nearly 1,800 files stored, and plans to store another 1,060 digital files during the next year. This amounts to approximately 30GB3 of content that needs to be backed up. The study found that digital photos are considered to be the most valuable because of their irreplaceable natures.

SanDisk Cruzer USB Flash Drive: Reliable storage with a new contemporary look

The SanDisk Cruzer has been redesigned with a contemporary look as part of the new SanDisk USB family of flash drives. These portable, reliable drives are designed to share consumers’ digital world with ease, with up to 32GB of storage for simple sharing of photos, videos and other files.

The entire new SanDisk USB family introduces an iconic new design language developed by global innovation firm frog design. Signature design elements include juxtaposed L shapes that create a dynamic, yet balanced, composition, a bright red USB connector and a simple cap-less design, which exposes the USB connector for use via a dynamic sliding mechanism. When plugged in to a host device, a glowing, amber-colored LED light alerts users that the drives are ready for reading or writing data.

The new SanDisk USB family will continue to have U3™ Smart technology, developed by SanDisk, which allows applications to run from a SanDisk USB flash drive without having to be installed on a computer.4 PC-users can download a variety of both free and paid software, games and content by visiting www.u3.com, or by accessing the SanDisk USB Program Wizard in the U3 Launchpad. Among other bonus applications available for download is the Veoh™ Web Player for SanDisk, which enables users to watch, download and share Internet video content.

The various product lines of SanDisk USB flash drives will continue to include the sleek and high-performance SanDisk Extreme Contour as its high-end storage solution for maximum security and speed. This showpiece of innovative design sports super-fast data transfer speeds at 25MB/second read and 18MB/second write.5 It also includes superior security with 256-bit AES USB hardware encryption and password-protected access control.

Pricing and Availability

The new SanDisk USB flash drives will first become available in April 2009.6 The SanDisk Cruzer drive will be available in capacities of 4GB-32GB with MSRPs ranging between $24.99 and $99.99. The SanDisk Ultra Backup drive will be available in capacities of 8GB-64GB with MSRPs ranging between $39.99 and $199.99. The SanDisk Extreme Contour USB flash drive is available in major retailers today.

The SanDisk Cruzer drive includes a two-year limited warranty,7 the SanDisk Ultra Backup drive includes a five-year limited warranty, 8 and the SanDisk Extreme Contour includes a lifetime limited warranty.9

At the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today introduced its new digital camera lineup for the first half of 2009.

At the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today introduced its new digital camera lineup for the first half of 2009. Consisting of four new models, Samsung’s new digital cameras run the gamut in terms of style and innovation and are designed for shooters of various skill levels and budgets.

HZ10W
The new 10.2 mega-pixel HZ10W sets a new standard for the mega-zoom category, offering a high-performance, ultra-wide 24mm Schneider lens with 10x optical zoom that allows shooters to be more creative and flexible when taking digital images. The HZ10W offers a host of manual controls, including the ability to adjust shutter speed, aperture, exposure, and focus. The camera also incorporates both Optical and Digital Image Stabilization to help reduce image blur. The HZ10W gives shooters the ability to capture video in 720p high-definition at 30 frames-per-second (fps), and thanks to H.264 compression, users can record video for longer periods of time, allowing them to better utilize the remaining memory capacity on their memory card. Additionally, shooters can utilize Optical Image Stabilization and the camera’s 10x optical zoom while recording video, as well as Samsung’s Successive Recording mode, which allows the user to pause and then resume filming without having to save the clips as individual files.

TL100
At just 16.6mm thick (excluding the lens), the TL100 is the ideal solution for consumers in search of an easy-to-use, portable, pocket-sized digital camera. Ultra-slim and stylish, the 12.2 mega-pixel TL100 features a 3x optical zoom and large 2.7 inch LCD housed in brushed stainless steel body. The camera also boasts Samsung’s new Smart Auto feature, which automatically selects the appropriate scene mode for the environment users may be shooting in. For example, the TL100’s Smart Auto feature will automatically set the camera to its landscape scene mode if the user is taking an image of a mountain range, and then switch gears and automatically select the portrait scene mode if the user proceeds to take an image of an individual. No manual interaction is required by the user.

SL-Series: SL102 and SL420
Rounding out Samsung’s digital camera introductions at CES 2009 are two new models joining the company’s popular and user-friendly SL-Series – the SL102 and SL420. Both new SL Series digital cameras feature a resolution of 10.2 mega-pixels, offer Face Detection and are powered by rechargeable Li-Ion batteries. The SL102 features a 3x optical zoom, Digital Image Stabilization technology, and a 2.5 inch LCD, while the SL420 goes a step further, addressing consumers’ demands for larger LCD screens, longer zooms, and better stabilization. The SL420 features a larger 2.7 inch LCD display, a more powerful 5x optical zoom that allows the shooter to get in close to their subject from far away, and Dual Image Stabilization, which combines the strengths of both Optical and Digital Image Stabilization to help reduce blur caused by an unsteady hand. The SL102 can record MJPEG / VGA video, and the SL420 can record MPEG4 / SVGA video.

The SL102 and SL420 will be available in Spring 2009.

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today announced the TL100, a remarkably slim and easy-to-use 12.2 mega-pixel point-and-shoot digital camera.

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today announced the TL100, a remarkably slim and easy-to-use 12.2 mega-pixel point-and-shoot digital camera. Measuring just 16.6mm thick (excluding the lens), the TL100 is the ultimate pocket-sized solution for the on-the-go consumer in search of a digital camera that won’t weigh them down. Encased in eye-catching, brushed stainless steel, the ultra-slim TL100 manages to pack a large 2.7 inch LCD screen for framing shots and reviewing images and video, as well as a high-quality Samsung lens, offering a 3x optical zoom.

The TL100 is highlighted by Samsung’s new Smart Auto feature, which takes ease-of-use to a new level, underscoring what it truly means to be a point-and-shoot digital camera. When engaged, Smart Auto will automatically select one of the TL100’s 11 scene modes which best suits the environment the user may be shooting in. For example, the TL100’s Smart Auto feature will automatically set the camera to its Landscape scene mode if the user is taking an image of a mountain range, and then switch gears and automatically select the Portrait scene mode if the user proceeds to take an image of an individual. No manual interaction is required.

In addition to Smart Auto, the TL100 also incorporates Samsung’s proprietary Smart Album program. Smart Album is useful tool which allows users to search through the various files they have saved on their memory card for a specific image. Smart Album automatically organizes the user’s digital images and gives them the ability to narrow their search based on the date or month the image was taken, the file type, whether it’s a photo, video, or voice memo, and the overall color tone.

“The TL100 exemplifies style and simplicity,” said Tony Sorice, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Digital Imaging, at Samsung Electronics America. “This is an attention grabbing digital camera, not only because of its brushed stainless steel body and slim profile, but because of the advanced features that it brings to the user’s fingertips, which make taking a digital photograph easier than ever.”

The TL100 also offers consumers Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection, and Beauty Shot technology, all engineered to help improve results and enhance one’s images. Face Detection automatically recognizes up to nine faces in a frame and adjusts camera settings to maximize image quality, while Smile Shot will only allow an image to be taken if the TL100 recognizes a smile. Blink Detection is a useful feature that will improve a user’s ability to capture a photo with everyone’s eyes open. When Blink Detection is selected, the TL100 will automatically take two successive shots when the shutter button is fully pressed, and if the camera detects that a subject’s eyes are closed, a third shot will be fired. The TL100’s Beauty Shot mode is a unique option that will automatically retouch imperfections on a subject’s face, such as blemishes and dark spots, to help improve and even out skin tones. The level of retouching is also selectable by the shooter allowing them to control how much editing will be applied to image.

For added stability and blur-free images, Samsung has incorporated Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) technology into the TL100, a useful feature that helps reduce the blur found in images as a result of vibrations, hand shake or other unexpected movements at the moment of image capture.

Users can also record video with the new TL100. Featuring MPEG-4 video recording, consumers can capture video at a maximum resolution of 800×592 (SVGA) at 20fps and utilize the camera’s 3x optical zoom for added versatility. The TL100 also features useful in-camera editing controls, which allows users to pause, and then resume filming of video clips without having to save each clip as an individual file.

Further adding to the TL100’s ease of use is Samsung’s embedded Function Description program. Function Description provides users with a brief and easy to understand description of each setting when scrolling through the camera’s menus, helping them determine which setting is appropriate for their current shooting scenario.

The Samsung TL100 will be available in Spring 2009.

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today unveiled six new digital camcorders at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today unveiled six new digital camcorders at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The company further solidified its leadership in the high-definition category with the announcement of five new full-HD models and introduced its next generation YouTube™ compatible compact digital camcorder. Several of Samsung’s new camcorders introduced at CES 2009 are also among the first to feature internal, flash based Solid State Drives (SSD), providing higher capacity, and faster, more durable onboard memory.

H-Series: HMX-H100, HMX-H104, HMX-H105, HMX-H106
Samsung’s H-Series of full-HD digital camcorders set a new standard for style and performance. The HMX-H106, Samsung’s new flagship full-HD digital camcorder, is the world’s first to feature an internal 64GB SSD (as of January 5, 2009). Samsung’s renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder, providing consumers with higher performing and more durable internal memory. Samsung’s SSD technology is more lightweight and compact, operates silently with very low heat emission, and features no moving parts, which significantly reduces overall power consumption and enhances reliability. No moving parts also make SSD technology more durable and resistant to shock and vibrations. Additionally, Samsung’s SSD technology is faster than HDD, including quicker boot-up and read/write speeds which is required for the amount of data recorded in full-HD resolution. When actively reading and writing data, Samsung’s SSD technology consumes approximately 1/8th of the power of a comparable HDD (estimated value with 3GB/second, 2.5 inch HDD, 5400 RPM).

The HMX-H105 and HMX-H104 offer 32GB and 16GB SSDs, respectively, and like the HMX-H106, also allow consumers to expand memory capacity using an SD/SDHC memory card. The HMX H100 does not feature an internal SSD and requires the use of a SD/SDHC memory card.

The new H-Series full-HD digital camcorders also utilize H.264 compression, which significantly increases recording time. At full-HD resolution and when set to fine mode, users can record up to three hours directly to the 16GB HMX-H104, six hours to the 32GB HMX H105, and an unparalleled 12 hours to the 64GB HMX-H106.

Each of the new H-Series full-HD camcorders feature a 1/4.5”, 2.2 mega-pixel CMOS imaging sensor, a 10x optical zoom, high-quality Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens, and Optical Image Stabilization to help counteract shaky video and blur. Samsung’s new H-Series camcorders also offer a direct connection for an HDMI cable, further simplifying the way HD video is viewed on an HDTV and eliminating the need for proprietary docking stations. Consumers can also utilize the camcorders to take more than just stunning high definition video as each offers the ability to capture 4.7 mega-pixel digital still photos.

SMX-F34
Samsung’s newly introduced SMX-F34 is the company’s next generation YouTube™ compatible compact digital camcorder. Building on the success of the well received SC MX20, the SMX-F34 offers users substantial battery life of up to three hours, world class Schneider optics, as well as added features and functionality, including built-in memory, digital still photo capability, and Samsung’s 42x Intelli-Zoom. Significantly more reliable than a standard digital zoom which negatively affects the quality of the image, Samsung’s new Intelli-Zoom allows users to go beyond the camcorder’s 34x optical zoom without sacrificing image quality.

The SMX-F34 features a memory card slot for SD/SDHC and 16GB of internal flash memory. Thanks to H.264 compression, users can record up to eight hours of standard definition video when using the 16GB built-in memory.

The SMX-F34 offers a high-performance CCD sensor that delivers a resolution of 720×480, and features a Web & Mobile shooting mode that allows users to record in the exact format and resolution required by YouTube™, resulting in faster upload times to the Web when sharing video with friends and family online. An additional feature that separates the SMX-F34 from its SC-MX20 sibling is its ability to capture digital still photos. A dedicated Photo mode allows consumers to use the SMX-F34 camcorder as a digital camera, snapping 800×600 resolution images.

The SMX-F34 will be available in four colors, including Midnight Black, Sunset Red, Galaxy Silver, and Deep Ocean Blue, all with silver trim, and will feature Samsung’s exclusive swivel hand-grip, which effortlessly adjusts for regular and low angle shooting.

HMX-R10
Samsung’s new HMX-R10 is a CMOS-based full-HD digital camcorder that raises the bar for digital still photo capability. In addition to the ability to record full-HD video, consumers can also capture high-quality, nine mega-pixel digital still photos. The HMX-R10 also sets a new standard for ergonomics, featuring a unique form factor that allows users to hold the camcorder more comfortably. Thanks to the lens being angled at 25 degrees, the user can grip the camcorder in a more relaxed manner and record their subjects with ease, further reducing the stress on one’s wrist. Users can also benefit from a 5x optical zoom and swiveling 2.7 inch touch screen LCD.

The HMX-R10 will be available Summer 2009.
