MouthShut.com launches mobile reviews

MouthShut.com, the product and services review site launched in 2000, has joined the mobile bandwagon. Members of the site can now simply send an SMS to a short code to share their views.

The short reviews will appear on the home page of the site and other members can comment on them there, too. The mobile number of the writer will not be displayed.

Faisal Farooqui, founder and chief executive officer, MouthShut, says, “We realised that people wanted more options to send reviews. In fact, members were demanding an SMS service. Through the SMS reviews, we want to capture people’s opinions as they happen. For instance, if you are at a restaurant, you can immediately send a review on whether you like it or not.”

Though the general format on the site is long reviews, Farooqui feels that most of them can be easily summarised within the 160 characters available on SMS. “They will complement each other,” he adds.

The SMS option is being promoted among the site’s members. An internal survey by the company shows that about 50 per cent of its members are aware of the service. The site has 2.3 million members currently. In an interesting promotion, MouthShut is tying up with multiplexes for viewers’ reviews of movies.

MouthShut already has a WAP or mobile Internet site, but Farooqui says it will launch an exclusive site for mobiles in a few months.
